Crypto Art in Motion: Latin American Art Takes Place in Santo Domingo
Latin American art is undergoing a quiet but vibrant revolution, and crypto art is its new language.
This May 25th, the city of Santo Domingo becomes the epicenter of this transformation with the opening of the 2nd Crypto Art 2025 Gathering at the historic Dominican College of Plastic Artists (CODAP). This traveling exhibition, which has already made its mark in Miami and Kendall, continues its tour across the continent, bringing with it a diverse and powerful collection of works that merge the digital and the physical. An artistic journey that crosses borders.
This traveling exhibition, which visits several countries, is a cultural initiative of SpaceArt and its platform Spaceart-nft.io, led by Karo Galea. This exhibition features 30 physical works and 92 digital pieces, carefully selected to represent the richness and diversity of Latin American crypto art. Among the physical works is Juan Dollar 2024 by Carlos Apitz, a piece that encapsulates the essence of contemporary pop art, combining traditional techniques with elements of illustration and digital art.
This event is not only an exhibition, but an open conversation about how art evolves in the digital age. It is an opportunity for artists and viewers to explore new forms of artistic creation and appreciation.
CODAP: A Bastion of Dominican Art
Founded in 1977, the Dominican College of Plastic Artists (CODAP) has been a pillar in the promotion and development of art in the Dominican Republic. Its headquarters in Santo Domingo is not only an exhibition space, but also a meeting place for artists, critics, and art lovers. CODAP has played a crucial role in the training of generations of artists and in the dissemination of Dominican art both nationally and internationally. Its participation in this 2nd Crypto Arte 2025 Gathering reaffirms its commitment to innovation and openness to new forms of artistic expression.
Reyes Ocre Foundation: A Bridge Between the Traditional and the Digital
The Reyes Ocre Foundation, led by Dominican artist Reyes Ocre, has been instrumental in the realization of this exhibition. With a career spanning exhibitions in Altos de Chavón to international participation in Italy and Spain, Reyes Ocre has been a pioneer in integrating Caribbean and surrealist elements into his work. The foundation has provided curatorial and technological support, ensuring that the digital works are presented with the quality and context they deserve. Its work highlights the importance of local institutions in promoting and adapting art to new technologies.
The Importance of Crypto Art in Latin America
This traveling event is not just an exhibition; it is a statement about the place of Latin American art in the digital world. With participants from countries such as the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and Venezuela, the exhibition reflects a vibrant and diverse artistic community that is redefining the boundaries of art. Crypto art offers Latin American artists a platform to share their works with a global audience, breaking down geographical and economic barriers. It is a powerful tool for the democratization of art and the inclusion of historically marginalized voices.
