Digital retouching has become Art. But today there are very bad retouches or digital montages, the ideal is that the viewer does not see the retouching, even if it is unreal or fanciful.

If you are a designer or want to test your skills in Photoshop, I am going to give you several tips for your next digital retouching.

  1. Do not try to increase the resolution of an image. your main image has to be in good size and good resolution. The other images for your composition must have the same characteristics.
  2. All images in the composition must have the same lighting. Or at least similar, different shadows and the contrast of the images make your work more unreal and unprofessional.
  3. Adjust the colors, so that they are as similar as possible.
  4. If you are going to cut an image that looks good, not something made by a child. Photoshop has many tools to cut out or separate an image from the background, take your time to cut out the silhouette you want. Remember: Photoshop selects mechanically, you must have an artistic and critical eye to decide.
  5. Smooth the edges. In this way, one image over another is not cropped or over-mounted.
  6. The grain texture in the image. Digital photography also has a grain or texture much like 35mm film. If you use several different images you can use the “Add Noise” filter, to match the textures of the images.
  7. Hair… the big problem. There are many solutions for the same problem, you can use all the tips you have already read. You can take the original photo on a green or blue background and then in “Color Range” separate the subject from the background. If the original photo has a white background, you can copy the hair edges, paste them into a new layer, and put this layer in “Multiply” mode. In conclusion: if a bad hairstyle is unpleasant… imagine a bad digital retouching of the hair.

Take your time to choose or plan your original photo and pay attention to the details.

I hope that these tips are useful to you and that they help improve your work.
