The choice of medium, subject matter and style is motivated by the lack of high-quality photographs of Martí. Utilizing an engraving from the late 19th century as a reference, the artwork combines dynamic brushstrokes to convey his fervent struggle. Acrylic with gel is employed to impart a 3D effect to his face, reminiscent of pen drawings or engravings, juxtaposing the vibrant hues of the Cuban flag with his serene countenance.
